The province is re-launching paid sick leave.
People who get COVID-19 will be entitled to up to four paid sick days under Nova Scotia’s COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave Program.
To be eligible you must not be able to work remotely and miss less than half of your scheduled work time in a week. Full eligibility and program details are set to be released in the new year.
Premier Tim Houston said it’ll help people do the right thing, stay home, to keep our workplaces safe.
“We know people are feeling extra stressed at this holiday time,” he said. “We want them to know more assistance is coming.”
If you miss more than half your hours in a week, you’ll have to apply to the federal Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit.
The provincial program is not set to come back into effect until Jan. 10 but will be retroactive to Dec. 20, so if you take sick time from now until then you’ll be able to apply. It’s set stay in place until Mar. 31.
The program covers wages, including for self-employed people, up to $20 per hour or $160 per day.
