Premier Tim Houston was put on the spot Wednesday when he was asked if our province would follow Quebec’s move to impose a tax on unvaccinated people.
While the province is encouraging people to get vaccinated, a tax isn’t something officials are discussing, Houston said.
“I understand the frustration that people are feeling, and I share it, but those aren’t specific discussions that we’re having in this province right now,” Houston said at a COVID-19 briefing Wednesday.
News broke Tuesday of Quebec’s decision to tax unvaccinated residents.
Premier François Legault is calling the move “a question of fairness” for those who have gotten the vaccine, as currently, most cases of COVID hospitalization in Quebec are unvaccinated individuals.
