X-Women Hockey forward Maggy Burbidge was named the STFX Female Athlete of the Week.
Maggy, a 2nd year Arts student from Falmouth, NS was the player of the game with three points in the X-Women’s 4-2 semifinal series clincher over SMU Saturday night.
Maggy assisted on the first X goal then scored the game winning goal late in the second and added an insurance marker in the third.
The win sealed a 2-0 series win to advance the X-Women to the final round. Named an AUS first team all-star this week, Maggy also played strong games in STFX’s 3-2 overtime win in Halifax Friday and their 6-1 quarterfinal win over Moncton Wednesday.
She was second overall in AUS scoring this season with 24 points (12G, 12A).
X-Men Basketball forward David Muenkat was named STFX Male Athlete of the Week.
David, a first year Arts student (3rd year eligibility) from Brampton, ON was the player of the game in both X-Men wins this week, posting two double-double games.
In Wednesday’s 86-81 win at Acadia he scored a team-high 22 points and added 13 RB, 1 AST, 2 STL and 1 BL.
In Saturday’s 101-82 win over the same Acadia squad, David scored a game-high 32 points and had 10 RB, 1 AST and 1 STL in helping the X-Men secure second place in the AUS standings.
He finishes the season 3rd in AUS rebounding (9.6 RPG) and 3rd in team scoring (13.8 PPG).
