The premier is speaking out against the move to issue a COVID-19 exposure alert for the Nova Scotia Legislature.
Progressive Conservative Premier Tim Houston has issued a statement on Twitter.
He says the decision to post the memo for Province House was made by Speaker Keith Bain alone.
“Our government does not agree with the decision the Speaker’s Office made on their own,” the Tweet says. “The Speaker, with his staff, set the rules of the Legislature. The Speaker’s Office acts independently of the Premier, Premier’s Office and government.”
The exposure alert was issued over the weekend, warning anyone who was at Province House on Thursday and Friday of possible exposure.

Anyone who was there on those dates was encouraged to get tested for the virus. Province House has also been shut down due to the exposure.
Houston’s statement comes after critics took to social media to criticize the move, saying it pointed to a “double-standard.” The province no longer issues COVID-19 exposure notifications for public spaces or schools.
Houston says an exception should not have been made for politicians.
“There absolutely should never be two different standards for politicians and the public.”
