A 58-year-old man from Musquodobit Harbour faces several charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly choked another person on a boat.
The RCMP says it was an incident of intimate partner violence.
They say it happened on Wednesday at about 2:50 in the afternoon on the northern part of Lake Charlotte.
Officers say the man assaulted the other person then tried to push them out of the boat. The man then drove the boat back to shore in the southern part of the lake.
Police found the man and took him in after he tried to run away.
The man faces charges for:
- attempted murder
- assault by choking
- assault
- uttering threats
- mischief
- two counts of failing to comply with a release order
He appeared in court on Thursday and remains in custody.
Investigators have not released the man’s name to protect the victim.
The RCMP says the investigation continues, and they believe more boaters on the lake witnessed the incident.
They ask anyone who was on the water from 10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. to reach out to police at 902-420-5020.
