Municipality of the County of Richmond Warden, Lois Landry says it’s been a busy year.
Her highlights of 2025 include promoting housing development, having a recreation committee and updating bylaws and policies.
She is proud that council was able to keep Richmond County’s tax rates the same the last few years.
“This is a county that has an older demographic, that the median income is lower than the provincial median income, and you only have to go to the grocery store to see the prices continue to rise,” she shared.
Landry says the price of everything goes up, so the council recognizes the importance of holding tax rates as much as they can and will be top of mind during the 2026 budget deliberations.
She’s looking forward to new legislation coming to fire services by September, including what residents need to get the best services from departments and volunteers.
Landry also shared how communication is vital during for forest fires, like in Framboise this past year.
“Climate change becomes more challenging around forest fires coming out of drought in particular, so we understand, even more so, the importance of emergency preparedness,” she stated.
She says Council is really grateful to the support and input that they’ve gotten from residents and volunteers who make everything happen across Richmond County.
