A teenage boy in Nova Scotia has passed away after he was attacked by three dogs over the weekend.
In a statement to Acadia News, the Municipality of Shelburne says the community is “deeply heartbroken” by the tragic loss of the 13-year-old.
“We extend our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who are grieving this unimaginable loss,” said the municipality. “We recognize the profound impact this tragedy has on our community.”
The municipality says grief and counselling resources are available for students, families and residents.
The boy was a Grade 8 student at Shelburne Regional High School.
The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRC) says they extend “heartfelt sympathy” to all those affected.
“A loss such as this is felt widely, and we recognize the impact it has across our schools and broader communities,” says TCRC.
The school board says supports are in place at Shelburne High and neighbouring schools today and the days ahead.
“We are committed to ensuring safe and caring environments. We will continue to monitor and respond to the needs of our communities as we navigate this profound loss together.”
What happened
RCMP say it was Saturday around 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Upper Sandy Cove Road in Welshtown when the boy was attacked by three large-breed dogs.
He was riding a bike past the property.
All three dogs have been euthanized.
Out of respect for the family and the RCMP investigation, there will be no further comment.
