You may have noticed digital signs as you approach the Macdonald and MacKay bridges in the Halifax area.
In a media release the province says it is an early step in a transportation system that is “smarter, more informative and able to respond dynamically to road conditions.”
There are 11 signs placed on key roads that lead to the bridges including Highway 118, Highway 101, Victoria Road and near the Windsor Street Exchange.
Through Bluetooth and wi-fi, information is gathered on how long it takes to travel between points.
“Modernizing how we manage traffic is essential as our region continues to grow,” said Public Works Minister Fred Tilley. “Our government is providing clear, timely information as one tool we can use to improve the daily commute while longer-term transportation projects are underway.”
