Events East Group has named a new president and CEO.
The organization, responsible for operating the Halifax Convention Centre and Scotiabank Centre, announced Suzanne Fougere would take over the top job in April.
Fougere has been with Events East since 2010 and has held progressively senior roles in that time. She’s currently the executive vice-president for strategy and business development.
“Suzanne has been instrumental in driving growth while advancing the overall impact that Events East has on our city and province,” board chairman Norm Mensour said in a release. “We are confident she will continue to do incredible things as our new president and CEO.”
Fougere has been responsible for bringing some the biggest national and international events to Nova Scotia in recent years and played a key role in ensuring Events East achieved the milestone of generating $550 million in economic impact to the province.
Recently, she developed the new long-term strategic plan for the organization, setting its direction through 2030.
“It’s truly a privilege to step into this role and lead such a dedicated team during this exciting time for our organization,” Fougere said in a statement. “I look forward to working collaboratively with our partners, our customers and our community to further enhance the impact we can create through our venues and events.”
Fougere’s appointment was praised by members of government, both provincial and municipal.
“Suzanne is an admired business leader and respected voice in Nova Scotia,” said Growth and Development Minister Colton LeBlanc. “I am confident in her ability to continue to attract and host incredible events that generate significant economic and social impacts for our province.”
Halifax Mayor Andy Fillmore said Fougere’s long service and experience with Events East has strengthened the city as a world-class destination.
“Suzanne’s strong business acumen, strategic focus, and collaborative approach will continue to position the Scotiabank Centre and Halifax Convention Centre as preferred host venues on the national and international stage,” Fillmore said.
Fougere will take over from Carrie Cussons, who announced last year she would be stepping down in 2026.
Fougere’s five-year term begins April 1.
