Long-time allies are teaming up on offshore wind.
Nova Scotia and Massachusetts are signing a memorandum of understanding to advance projects in the Atlantic Ocean.
Premier Tim Houston was in the state to make the announcement alongside Governor Maura Healey.
Healey says they share the same vision.
“We want to get more energy built and to our communities. In the months ahead, we’ll work on development strategy, transmission supply chains and the work force,” said Healey.
Both leaders highlighted the history between the province and state dating back to the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
Houston says it’s a moment to take the next step together.
“We have 8,000 miles of coastline, vast oceans, incredible wind speeds, the wind blows a lot. Water depths are good, so we have all the conditions to create a lot of clean energy,” said Houston.
The Premier has said he wants to develop the province into an energy superpower, and says his ‘Wind West’ project will help achieve that.
It’s been identified as a project of interest by Prime Minister Mark Carney.
