A suspect arrested for drug offences following a traffic stop in Inverness Co. is expected to return to court in the spring.
Police say members of the Inverness District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit stopped a vehicle on Rte. 19 in Port Hastings in May.
They say officers seized more than 400 grams of cocaine, along with marijuana and cash.
RCMP originally charged Brennan Watts, 29, who was driving the vehicle, and Neil MacDonald, 24, who was a passenger, with three counts each of possession of marijuana and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking marijuana.
The Port Hood men, who made their first court appearances in the case the day after their arrests, had election-and-plea hearings in August; their preliminary inquiries, which determine if there is enough evidence to send a case to trial, got underway in September, and wrapped up in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court in November.
MacDonald was committed to stand trial on possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession of oxycodone and marijuana charges, while a marijuana trafficking charge was dismissed; he had two days set aside for his trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Port Hawkesbury Friday.
He’s scheduled to stand trial May 1-2.
Watts had his charges stayed.
