Antigonish’s mayor says a lack of cold weather is the only thing holding up the town’s new outdoor skating rink.
Town councillors announced their support for the project at November’s regular meeting.
After Monday night’s monthly meeting, Laurie Boucher, Mayor, said they’ve flooded the rink three times so far, but a recent spike in temperature didn’t help.
“With our warm weekend, some of it melted; Mother Nature is coming back, and with the cold weather, we’re hoping that it will freeze over nicely” she said. “A couple more floodings and we’ll be ready to go hopefully within a week or so.”
Boucher said the temporary rink on one of the ballfields at Dr. John Hugh Gillis High School has yet to be used.
