Strait Regional School Board officials say they’re investigating a knife incident within a Guysborough Co. school earlier this month.
Deanna Gillis, Coordinator of Communications, SRSB, says a St. Mary’s Education Centre/Academy student exposed a knife to another student in a threatening manner; several students witnessed the incident Jan. 3.
She says RCMP are also investigating; the threat comes after a 16-year-old was charged following a knife threat reported from an incident on a school bus, also serving St. Mary’s Education Centre/Academy, in October.
Gillis tells The Hawk staff are working toward the incident.
“The school has taken a number of initiatives to address this issue,” she says. “Some examples are: student-assemblies and homeroom reviews of the provincial school code of conduct policy- this includes unacceptable behaviours and possible consequences; the school provides specific reminders to students regarding accessing weapons the school year.”
Gillis says school administration and advisory council officials have invited RCMP into the school for an educational assembly.
