The Strait Pirates play their first game of 2019 when they host the Miners in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
The Pirates (17-2-1), with wins in 12 of their last 13 games, lead the six-team Sid Rowe Division with 35 points, four points up on the second-place Miners (14-4-3); they’re tied with East Hants for top spot in the 12-team league.
Taylor Lambke, the team’s head coach, tells The Hawk he’s not concerned the long Christmas layoff will hurt his team in their first game back.
“One thing we talked about in practice was just making sure we (bring) the work ethic Friday night,” he says. “If we work, we’ll get through some of the rust early on, hopefully find our game quickly, and get back at it.”
The teams have met once so far- the Pirates won 3-2 in Membertou in November.
Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.
