One of the three people charged in relation to a carjacking in Antigonish Co. is expected for sentencing Wednesday.
Police say they received a call from Hwy. 4 in Tracadie early one morning in August.
They say the dispatcher could hear a woman screaming and tires squealing, and they were told three men took a man and woman’s car at knife point; the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the woman had minor injuries.
RCMP say officers found the vehicle in the Pomquet area, with the knife used to threaten the victims inside.
Ellsworth Darren DeCoste, 30, of Tracadie, who was arrested a few days after the attack, was originally charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, robbery and two breaches in the case.
He pleaded not guilty to all his charges in October; he changed his plea to guilty on some counts in November.
He is scheduled for sentencing in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday; the hearing was adjourned in December.
DeCoste was recently in trouble with the law in another case; he pleaded guilty to two counts of uttering threats and one count of attempted break-and-enter in relation to an attempted home invasion in Goshen in May, and was sentenced to five months in jail, minus time-and-a-half credit for time already served.
His brother, Jed Douglas DeCoste, 27, of Tracadie was arrested shortly after the incident, and was originally charged with aggravated assault, assault, weapon possession and eight breaches.
He pleaded guilty to assault, weapon possession and five of his breaches, and was sentenced to three months in jail, which was considered the time served since he was arrested, and nine months of house arrest in November; his aggravated assault charge and the three remaining breaches were dropped.
Jean-Luc Cote, 22, of Malignant Cove, who was also arrested shortly after, faces an aggravated assault count and four breaches in the case; he was released from custody on conditions.
Cote entered not guilty pleas to all his charges in October; his trial is scheduled for Feb. 8.
