101.5 The Hawk (CIGO FM) is located in Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Established in October 1975, CIGO is a full-service adult contemporary station with a focus to servicing the community through public service, news, sports and weather information.
CIGO began as 1410 AM and converted to 101.5 FM on April 3, 2000. We can be heard from New Glasgow to Sydney, Nova Scotia, but our main focus is the Quad Counties (Inverness, Richmond, Antigonish and Guysborough Counties) 24 hours a day.
The Hawk has received numerous recognition awards for our positive contribution to the community. In 2008 we were awarded the ECMA for Small Market Radio Station of the Year. As the only daily source for local news, weather, sports and information, The Hawk has become an integral part of the Quad Counties.
We are a progressive station leading the way with digital technology and community involvement. Our team is in the community reporting on events and serving on committees in an effort to help our region grow.
The Strait of Canso situated between Cape Breton Island and Mainland Nova Scotia has become one of our strongest assets as North America’s deepest ice free ports. The economy is supported by Port Hawkesbury Paper (coated and supercalendered paper mill), NuStar (petroleum transshipment facility), Clearwater (processing plant), Nova Scotia Power Generating Station, Exxon-Mobil Energy Incorporated, DSM (nutritional supplements), Martin Marietta Materials Limited (Cape Porcupine), Nova Scotia Community College – Strait Area Campus featuring the Nautical Institute, the Superport Corporation, Mulgrave Machine Works, and a strong small business community. The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre has been named one of the world’s top 10 sports stadiums.
Additionally Antigonish is strengthened by world leading StFX University highlighted by the Charles Keating Centre, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Festival Antigonish and many institutions, which help to secure the community’s economic future.
