Officials in the Town of Mulgrave have voted to join the Eastern Strait Regional Enterprise Network.
John Beaton, the network’s executive director, made a presentation at December’s regular town council meeting Monday night.
Beaton explained what they currently provides to officials in the Town of Antigonish, Antigonish Co., the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, the Town of Port Hawkesbury, and the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s.
After the meeting, Ralph Hadley, the mayor of Mulgrave, told The Hawk councillors agreed joining the REN would be a plus for their town.
“I think they could come in and help us try to promote our town a little more,” he said. “Try to encourage, maybe, some small businesses (and) help us get back on track again since we didn’t dissolve.”
Hadley said it will benefit them to be involved in an organization with their counterparts in neighbouring municipalities.
He said the cost of $9,000-$10,000 works for them.
“That is a very good figure, a good price tag for us to join,” he said. “That would be in our budget range, yes.”
Hadley said they hope to be part of the network by January.
