A man from an Antigonish Co. First Nations community who entered a pair of guilty pleas in connection with a violent dispute is scheduled to return to court in March.
Police say a man from the Paq’tnkek First Nation swung a broken table leg at another man, and cut his hands in January; they say the second man stabbed the first with a knife several times.
They originally charged Terry Matthew Julian, 35, of Paq’tnkek with two counts of assault with a weapon; Julian, whose case opened in court in February, pleaded not guilty to both of his charges in March 2017.
He was expected to stand trial in October, but didn’t show up; he pleaded guilty to two assault counts during a status update in November.
Julian had another status update in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday; he’s expected back for a sentencing hearing March 1.
Issiah Thomas Julian, 20, of Paq’tnkek was originally charged with aggravated assault in the case, but the charge was dismissed when the Crown offered no evidence as his trial was set to get underway in March 2017.
