Antigonish town councillors have voted to defer funding for changes to an intersection until next year.
Town officials originally planned to make changes to the Main-Hawthorne intersection this year.
After last night’s monthly meeting, Mayor Laurie Boucher said it can be confusing for both residents and visitors.
“It’s hard to know that the straight away is actually coming down by West St. and going up Hawthorne,” she says. “Most people think it’s natural to go – to keep coming down West and keep going on to Main, but that’s not the case.”
Boucher said an island will be put in the middle of the intersection to make it more clear who has the right-of-way.
She said they heard concerns from business owners in the area, so they decided to wait until after StFX spring convocation and before the highland games to do the work.
