Several university hockey players have been handed additional suspensions following a university hockey game brawl.
One of them is Acadia Axemen forward Rodney Southam who admitted to making an inappropriate comment that triggered the brawl…he gets an additional five games.
The suspensions were handed down Tuesday by Atlantic University Sport and will take effect immediately.
They will carry over into the 2019-2020 regular season if necessary.
Last week, AUS suspended 15 players and the head coaches for the Acadia Axemen and the StFX X-Men as part of its initial response to the Feb. 2 fight in Wolfville.
Those suspensions totalled 39 games.
Southam was one of three Acadia players to be suspended for additional games today.
Two St. FX players were also suspended for two additional games.
StFX’s Sam Studnicka who was the target of the taunts has not been suspended for any additional games.
Both coaches have also received additional discipline.
Brad Peddle and Darren Burns have both been suspended for an additional eight games; officials in the StFX Athletics Department say they’re appealing Peddle’s suspension.
The coaches were previously suspended for the last two games of the regular season.
Acadia and St. FX are set to begin their first-round playoff series Wednesday night in Antigonish.
