
A massive forest fire in Antigonish Co. is considered under control.
The fire on Old Mulgrave Rd. near Frankville, which was first reported at roughly 2 p.m. Monday, spread to 200 hectares in size at its peak.
The latest update from officials with the province’s Department of Lands and Forestry, sent via Twitter at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, indicates the fire has been reduced to 148 hectares and is 75 per cent contained.
They say their helicopter has been released from duty, and crews had packed up for the night.
Firefighters returned to the scene to continue patrol at first light Wednesday.
Environment Canada officials have lifted their special air quality statement they issued Monday.
Update – Tuesday 9:15 PM – Fire remains under control. 148 ha and 75% contained. Crews are packing up for the evening and will return at first light to continue patrol.
