A former local Chief has been named Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Paul Prosper stepped down as Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation Chief to take the role, he was sworn in at a ceremony last Thursday.
Prosper tells The Hawk it’s an honour, just as his seven years as Paqtnkek Chief was.
“Being Chief of Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation has been best job I have ever had,” he says. “I love my community; even just thinking about it, I’m quite emotional.”
Prosper says he’ll continue to live in Paqtnkek while he works as regional Chief.
He says it’s his home.
“I just value our community,” he says. “I will always be there to help out.”
Prosper says band council voted unanimously to appoint Tma Francis interim Paqtnkek Chief after Proser stepped down.
He says Francis will serve until the band election in November 2021.
