The newly-elected mayor of Mulgrave says he loves his town.
Ron Chisholm defeated Lorne MacDonald, a former mayor and long-time councillor, with 68 per cent of the vote in Saturday’s municipal election; Ralph Hadley, the town’s previous mayor, did not re-offer.
After the results were announced, Chisholm told The Hawk he’s put a lot of work in already.
“Working with the people, getting to know the people of this town- I’ve been here 25 years, and I’ve got to know quite a few of them,” he said. “I’ve got a love for the town- we hope to continue on.”
Chisholm is joined by returning councillors Tanya Snow and Bob Russell, as well as newcomers Crystal Durling and Krista Luddington; they were all acclaimed when they were the only candidates to come forward for the town’s four at-large council positions.
He said he’s looking forward to working with the new group.
“We’ve got an experienced council that’s been there for four years now- I’ve been there for seven,” he said. “We can lead them on, and hopefully keep the town going as long as we can, and work toward some new ventures.”
Chisholm, who was first elected in a 2013 by-election, said it’s a solid mix of experience and new blood at the council table.
He said the newcomers provide fresh eyes and new perspectives.
