More than half-a-million dollars in reserve funds have been set aside for the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex.
Councillors in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough voted 4-3 in favour of keeping $550,000 in CLC reserves during March’s regular meeting Wednesday afternoon.
Rickey McLaren, Dave Hanhams and Fin Armsworthy voted against the motion; McLaren said that money could be better spent elsewhere, instead of in reserve for a new facility.
After the meeting, Vernon Pitts, the warden of the municipality, said they can move the money if needed.
“That is in the CLC reserve, but council has the power to extend that money on anything they see fit to extend it upon,” he said. “It could be a piece of pavement, a sidewalk, (or) the Canso Arena- it’s at council’s discretion.”
Pitts said the money isn’t for operating expenses; it’s for any capital-related expenses.
He said the funds are rebates from federal and provincial officials after the facility was built.
