Incumbent MLA Allan MacMaster will represent the provincial PC Party for the riding of Inverness again in the next election.
MacMaster has a 12-year tenure as MLA for the area; he says there’s always more to be done.
Among the things he hopes to continue working on should he be re-elected is access to reliable internet and better cell coverage. Service providers have neglected rural Nova Scotia over the years because it’s not profitable for them, he says.
“I think going forward the important thing is to make sure that people are getting comparable speed for their internet and comparable price… for that internet service,” says MacMaster.
He’s been working on getting better cell coverage for the region since 2014, MacMaster says, Noting that he worked to make cell coverage maps available to municipal council hoping the province and the municipality would agree to cost-share a project to bring better service to the area.
Nothing has come to fruition regarding the maps yet, he says.
MacMaster also acknowledges the need for housing Inverness County, and says he’s tried to bring new developments to the area.
He references a development which was planned to be built in the Town of Inverness. The development would have seen 80 units built — with half of those reserved as affordable housing.
Ultimately the project was put on hold after two years of waiting for the county to tell them how much it would cost to hook up to municipal water and sewage lines.
MacMaster says the lack of housing hasn’t been for lack of trying.
