The Nova Scotia Liberal Party needs a new leader, after Iain Rankin stepped down earlier this week.
There are 16 other Liberal MLA’s in Nova Scotia, and we have yet to hear who will officially put their name forward.
Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill says he’s thinking about it.
Churchill has spent nearly 12 years as an MLA, and has served as minister of health and education.
He says rebuilding the party is something that intrigues him.
“Building a new transformative vision for the province, and to help our system of government better meet the needs of people, and to help people. Those are really big motivating factors for me,” says Churchill.
Churchill says he hasn’t made an official decision, but he continues to have conversations with the party and his family.
“At the end of the day, I want to do what’s best for the party, province and my family. I’m evaluating all of those things right now, and hope to have a decision in the not-to-distant future.”
He calls Rankin a good and thoughtful guy, who led the party during a really challenging time, and says his actions saved the lives of Nova Scotians in the third wave of the pandemic.
Rankin will stay on until a new leader is chosen, and he’ll remain an MLA.
