The federal government plans to increase premiums for the Canadian Pension Plan this month and the official opposition has once again come out against it.
The Conservative Party of Canada is repeating the calls they made in December for the increase to be cancelled.
South Shore-St. Margarets MP Rick Perkins says now is not the right time for the increase.
“Three out of five families are having trouble paying for just putting food on the table,” says Perkins. “With the highest inflation in 30 years, the cost of gas, the cost of food and the cost of heating all going up dramatically.”
He shared a message for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“It’s not too late to reverse that tax increase. Please Prime Minister Trudeau, don’t be taking more money from hardworking families wallets at a time where the cost of everything else is going up. The last thing the government should be doing is adding to their costs.”
