The Warden of Inverness County has died.
Municipal Council and Staff announced the death of Laurie Cranton Friday.
They say he died Thursday evening.
Cranton served as councillor for District 2, Grand Étang/St.-Joseph-du-Moine/the Margarees, since 2016, and was elected Warden by council after the 2020 municipal elections.
Keith MacDonald, Inverness County CAO, says Cranton always had the best interests of Inverness County at heart.
“It has been both a pleasure and an honour to work alongside Warden Cranton,” he says. “He will be deeply missed.”
Deputy Warden Bonny MacIsaac also shared her condolences.
“Laurie’s legacy will live on,” she says. “He will be remembered as a kind, supportive, inspirational leader and advocate for the Inverness County, District 2 and the accessibility community.”
Cranton spent much of his time on council intermittently in hospital, but continued his work with council even from his hospital bed.
