The Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital has been overwhelmed with patients coming in for treatment.
This is said to be the result of low wait times at the hospital, and this has led to healthcare workers being overwhelmed.
Patients from all over Cape Breton Island and even people from Truro were admitted for treatment.
Council members plan to meet with Nova Scotia Health to try to help these patients receive treatment elsewhere so that Inverness health care staff are not overwhelmed.
If too many health care workers are overworked and are unable to do their jobs, this could lead to the ER being shut down.
