The Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre is back, and organizers are excited to be returning home after a three-year hiatus.
The festival will be hosted by the Bauer Theatre which has been its home for more than three decades. The Covid-19 pandemic forced organizers to find creative new ways to bring the festival to life, but they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing it can return to its normal format.
This years festival will run from July 5th to August 26th, and features three new productions.
The New Canadian Curling Club by Mark Crawford is the first play of the festival It tells the story of a group of immigrants who join a Canadian newcomers curling club. Although they share their differences with each other and their reluctant coach, they find a way to come together as a true team.
The Adventures of the Little Girl and the Wind by Kalale Dalton-Lutale is an inspiring and whimsical tale of a young girl’s journey to find her courage. It is making its premiere from July 7th to august 4th at this year’s festival.
The production schedule wraps up with Murder for Two by Kellen Blair and Joe Kinosian. It is a witty homage to old school murder mysteries and features two performers playing a total of 13 roles.
The festival also includes two special concert events. The annual festival kitchen party will deliver a night of music and laughs while local duo Cassie and Maggie will bring their 21st Century stamp on Celtic music to the stage on August 4th.
