The NHL is coming to Cape Breton.
The league announced that the Stanley Cup runner up Florida Panthers will face the Ottawa Senators on October 1st in Sydney.
It’s a result of the community winning the Kraft Hockeyville competition last year.
In addition to the game, Sydney received 250,000 dollars to repair the arena at the decommissioned Canada Games Centre.
The Canada Games Centre was built in 1987 for that year’s Canada Winter Games but has since closed it doors in a cost-saving move. The money will allow the arena to purchase a new compressor and reopen to provide more ice time for the towns stars of tomorrow
The game will be played at Centre 200.
