If you like to garden, then chances are you’ve seen Japanese beetles.
McNab’s Island warns Nova Scotia resident’s on their Facebook page, that the pesky pests are everywhere and like to decimate many plants including raspberries, grape vines and fruit trees.
They say they counted around 300 in July in their gardens including the Japanese maples in the English Gardens of the Hugonin-Perrin estate on McNabs Island. They love the hot weather and we have certainly had plenty of that.
To help control them, they suggest plucking them off your plants and putting them in a jar full of soapy water.
They say the invasive species landed in Canada from the Yarmouth ferry in 1939 and that many provinces are trying to control or eradicate them.
