The recently renovated health clinic in Port Hawkesbury has expanded its services.
The province says, the formerly privately owned Island Gateway Medical Clinic, now, The Port Hawkesbury Health Centre, has eight more exam rooms as well as enhanced phone and patient appointment reminder system.
As for staff, it has four physicians, two family practice nurses, a dietitian, social worker and four administrative staff, with a plan to add more staff later.
“Supporting clinics to become a health home for patients where a connected team of healthcare professionals can provide more comprehensive care is one way we’re improving access to primary healthcare in the province,” said Finance Minister Allan MacMaster, MLA for Inverness, on behalf of Health Minister Michelle Thompson.
The clinic has the capacity to support 6,000 patients.
There are about 648 people in Port Hawkesbury on the Need a Family Practice Registry who are eligible to join the new health centre.
