Construction is underway at a new collaborative clinic in Antigonish.
The clinic will have capacity for about 10,000 patients, according to a news release from the Nova Scotia government.
More than 30 staff will work at the clinic, including nurse practitioners and other health staff, which could include mental health professionals, social workers, nurses, doctors, pharmacists or dietitians.
“We’re very excited to represent the physicians of Antigonish by being involved in the development of the new collaborative clinic. It is an excellent way to attract new physicians to practice in the area and to support the physicians who are already working so hard here,” wrote Dr. Jane Howard, physician co-lead, Antigonish collaborative clinic.
The new building will have:
- 29 exam rooms, nine charting stations
- four procedure rooms
- three collaborative team rooms
- two assessment rooms
- a triage room and a family room
- a shared waiting room
- three patient education rooms and offices
Funding comes from the province, which allocated $17 million in May of 2023 to expanding primary health care in the province.
So far, there are more than 100 collaborative family practice teams in Nova Scotia, the news release said.
“Patients want to receive care in modern facilities from a team of connected healthcare professionals,” wrote Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson in the news release. “This is an exciting opportunity for the community because we are building, from the ground up, healthcare they can count on.”
