Will Nova Scotia sign Ottawa’s universal pharmacare deal?
Talks are happening, according to Health Minister Michelle Thompson.
“Minister Mark Holland and I had an opportunity to meet last week, and certainly the officials in Health Canada and the Department of Health and Wellness are working on details of what that bilateral agreement could look like,” Thompson told reporters after a meeting of health ministers in Halifax Thursday.
The feds passed the bill last fall to give free access to birth control and diabetes medications.
Federal minister Mark Holland expects more deals will provinces will be signed in the coming days.
The opposition NDP have called on Nova Scotia to sign the deal immediately.
Thompson says they’re doing their due diligence.
“I think Nova Scotians expect that, based on the jurisdictional uniqueness that we have, so we’ll continue those discussions, but they are very active discussions that are underway.”
