Interprovincial trade will be a big topic at Canada’s First Ministers meeting.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Saskatchewan for the discussion with the country’s premiers.
To lead off the session, Carney said they’re working on priorities around the table.
“And that’s what this meeting is about, building a stronger Canadian economy. I can’t keep up with the flurry of announcements of free trade agreements between provinces,” said the Prime Minister.
He says the country is also in the middle of redefining its relationship with the United States.
U.S. president Donald Trump will be attending the G7 summit in Alberta later this month.
Carney says the coming weeks and months will be critical.
“The federal government will do its part to table legislation shortly to eliminate federal barriers to interprovincial movement of goods. And we’ll be putting in place an ability to advance projects of national interest.”
The PM says it’s just the start, and it’s what Canadians expect and deserve.
