The province is spending more than $58,000 on outdoor recreation infrastructure in Cape Breton East.
Three organizations will get money from the recent round of funding from the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, according to a news release.
That includes:
- $45,000 for Big Pond Community Council to replace roads, repair fences, and for new portable tennis and pickleball systems.
- $10,890 for the Fortress of Louisbourg Seniors and Community Centre to make accessibility upgrades at the building’s entrance.
- $1,765 for the Coal Coast Community Graden in Donkin to crate new garden beds, which would help engage people with local food.
The province is funding the projects in whole, according to a spokesperson for the PC Caucus Office. They said the groups apply for the money and explain why they want it, and then the province dishes out the funds. However, the spokesperson said there is a chance the projects had some funding lined up beforehand and that they mentioned an undisclosed amount in their applications.
Brian Comer, MLA for Cape Breton East, said in the release that these upgrades will make communities more active, inclusive and resilient.
“We’re ensuring that residents can enjoy spaces that are safe, accessible, and ready for future generations.”
