The Nova Scotia RCMP has charged a 26-year-old man from Newtonville after a high-speed chase in Middle Sackville.
Police say the man was allegedly driving 181 km/h in a 100 km/h zone when a traffic officer saw him on June 11 at about 8:09 p.m., according to a news release from police.
The officer turned on his flashing lights and tried to stop the Hyundai Elantra but it sped off.
It drove through a neighbourhood to Gaspereau Run and pulled into a driveway. The officer pulled into the driveway to try and block the car, but at about 8:14 p.m., the driver of the Elantra his the cop car as he turned back onto the street.
The officer followed, and a few seconds later the driver lost control of the Elantra and drove into a ditch near the intersection of Gaspereau Run and McCabe Lake Drive.
The driver tried to run away into a nearby yard but an off-duty officer arrested him there.
Two other people were also in the Elantra, a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the driver nor the 23-year-old were injured, police say.
When police searched the vehicle, they found drug paraphernalia and three baggies of what they believe is cocaine, according to the release.
The driver was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date to face charges for fleeing from a police officer and dangerous driving.
The investigation continues.
