A local company has been awarded the contract to do the civil work to prepare the new electrical substation site off Post Road, in the Town of Antigonish.
Ron Chisholm Hydro-Seeding Ltd. based in Lower South River will do the work.
The Town says this is a significant milestone in the $19.4 million Grid Modernization Project that will be the entry point to Antigonish’s electrical grid.
A state-of-the-art 30 MVA substation will be installed and the civil work is a “foundational step” to preparing the site.
The project will have advanced hardware and software systems used across town for a more reliable and resilient grid.
Benefits include:
- Reduced frequency and duration of power outages
- Expanded capacity for cost-effective electrification
- Greater integration of renewable energy sources
- Support for the Town’s net-zero emissions goals
“We’re proud to see local businesses like Ron Chisholm Hydro-Seeding Ltd. contributing to this vital infrastructure project, says Mayor Sean Cameron.
“Hiring local not only helps build a stronger community, but it also ensures that the economic benefits of these projects are felt right here at home.”
