A 6-year-old in Halifax is battling cancer for the second time.
The “warrior princess” Isla Rahal first dealt with cancer, called neuroblastoma, when she was three-and-a-half years old, according to a GoFundMe.
The fund, organized by Charlotte MacKeigan, has raised more than $12,700 as of noon on Wednesday. Their goal is $13,000.
The page says Isla was in her first year of school, but some recent scans showed a tumour was continuing to grow despite her latest chemotherapy treatment.
She and her family were devasted, the page says.
“And it is aggressive. This means a return to intensive treatments, hospital stays, and countless appointments,” the page says.
She has a new treatment plan at the IWK, and “continues to face this battle with courage and resilience.”
Her mother Courtney Rahal, father Justin Rahal, and younger sister Mara are a remarkable family, the page says.
“Always thinking of others, constantly showing up for their community, and now walking through one of life’s hardest chapters with unwavering love, strength, and grace.”
All donations form the GoFundMe will “help ease the financial burden” on the family while their daughter gets treatment.
The community has organized a BBQ fundraiser for the girl on August 9th at Acadia Park in Lower Sackville. It happens from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Acadia Hall, according The Laker News.
