St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) is going to adjust the timing of when it uses a sprinkler to water its sports fields after receiving backlash during a mandatory water ban.
The university was watering Memorial Field and the soccer pitch behind J. Bruce Brown, which sparked concern among some community members.
The Town is under a mandatory water conservation notice while the province grapples with very dry conditions.
StFX says they realize this presents the “wrong message” to residents under the current circumstances and will not run the sprinklers during the day.
“We fully recognize the seriousness of drought conditions and the importance of a community-wide effort to conserve water,” says StFX in a social media post. “We recognize and respect the sacrifices residents are making to help protect our shared water resources, and we appreciate the concern shown about responsible water use.”
The university says the water they use is not from the Town’s supply, but from their own wells, developed specifically for this purpose.
“StFX remains committed to sustainability and to being a responsible member of the local community. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work together through this challenging time.”
St. Francis Xavier University would like to address recent concerns from members of the community regarding the watering…
