The kids return to school this week and once again, parents can order lunches with the ‘pay what you can’ Nova Scotia School Lunch Program.
It was rolled out to select schools/grades last year, and this year, they have made some changes.
The program has expanded to include not just elementary schools, but all middle and junior high schools across the province. The ordering window for the next 2 weeks closes tomorrow.
The menu will feature “kid-approved” and some local ingredients.
- Soft-shell beef or black bean tacos
- Sweet and sour meatballs or tofu
- Chicken or falafel wraps
- Mini veggie or cheese pizzas
- Creamy pasta with chicken and vegetables — or a vegetarian version
- Macaroni and cheese with beef and vegetables — or vegetarian mac & cheese
Cultural & Local Highlights
- Acadian chicken fricot
- Murgh makhani (butter chicken)
- Corn chowder with l’uskinikn (a traditional Mi’kmaw biscuit)
- Moujadara (baked rice with lentils and caramelized onions)
Kids will have two choices every school day, and you can view the full menu and order online [HERE].
