Nova Scotia’s Liberals want Ottawa to help lower our power bills.
In a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, party members Derek Mombourquette and Iain Rankin say clean power connections need to be prioritized in the new Major Projects Office.
They say there’s been a lack of progress on energy transmission in Atlantic Canada, and we’re too reliant on coal.
The members point to other large-scale energy projects in other provinces, and worry that Nova Scotians will be locked into higher rates and slower climate action.
The Liberals are asking for a new regional transmission plan for wind, solar and hydro.
Earlier this week, Nova Scotia Power proposed more rate hikes over the next two years, Premier Tim Houston called the request ‘out of touch.’
