A 74-year-old woman and 26-year-old man are dead after a crash on Highway 28 in Cape Breton.
Cape Breton Police say two vehicles crashed in the 3000 block of the highway in New Victoria shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday, according to a news release from Cape Breton Regional Police.
When first responders arrived, they found one vehicle upside down in a ditch and the other in the road with serious damage. Fire crews and bystanders were helping people from both vehicles.
The driver of one vehicle was a 74-year-old woman from New Victoria. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 26-year-old man from Sydney, had life-threatening injuries and died in hospital.
A passenger in one of the vehicles was taken first to Cape Breton Regional Hospital and later airlifted to Halifax in serious condition.
A collision reconstructionist, the forensic identification unit and other police officers will continue investigating.
