The Cape Breton Eagles are ready for their season-opening weekend.
The team will play two against the Sea Dogs in Saint John Friday and Saturday.
The Eagles have a new coaching staff, led by Jason Clarke, who took over for Louis Robitaille.
Clarke says he’s gotten to know the team over the last month of training camp.
“The team has come together really nicely, we have a nice group of young men that are working very hard, and doing things the right way on and off the ice,” said Clarke.
Cape Breton has eight returning players from their 2025 playoff roster, who lost in the first-round to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
Clarke adds it will be a good mix of veterans and youth.
“We’re developing the young guys, and it will also be an interesting year for some of the older guys too. They want to play well everyday and continue to get better. I’m excited we can all do this together.”
The Eagles also played a preseason game at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre on September 6, a win over the Halifax Mooseheads.
Clarke thanked the town for their strong support of the team.
“What a beautiful facility they have, with the fans and people and volunteers there. We were treated like absolute gold. We had the best postgame meal we’ve had all year too. It was a great experience for everyone involved, and we want to be back there next year.”
