Two people are facing more than 40 charges related to theft and property crimes around the province.
On Sept. 22, RCMP in Barrington got a call that two people visited a gas station in Barrington Passage, fuelled up a white cube van, and left without paying for the gas.
Later that day Yarmouth RCMP responded to several thefts involving an e-bike and alcohol, according to a news release from RCMP. The suspects matched the same description as the gas theft and were also reportedly driving a white cube van.
Officers patrolled Barrington Passage and found the vehicle, but when they tried to stop it, they sped off “in a dangerous manner, including evading a spike belt.” For safety reason, they did not chase the van.
With the help of the NSLC corporate security, they identified the suspects and learned they were also wanted for several more thefts and property crimes around the southwestern region and Halifax.
Halifax Regional Police located and arrested them on Sept. 24 and then turned them over to the Shelburne RCMP.
A 34-year-old from Halifax faces 11 charges and a 38-year-old from Charleston faces 30 charges.
They have appeared in court and remain in custody.
The RCMP said the crimes took place across several jurisdictions and needed significant collaboration across different police agencies.
Investigators added that good security footage was key in finding them, and that anyone with cameras should make sure they’re pointed at important spots inside and outside the store, and that employees can review and save footage as needed.
