You can likely expect a lot of excitement among hockey fans in Cape Breton this weekend.
The Cape Breton Eagles are ready to face off at their home opener against defending Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) champions, the Moncton Wildcats.
Both teams played away games for the opening weekend.
Tomas Lavoie plays his first game as the Eagles captain tonight.
He’s expected to be one of the top defensemen in the QMJHL this year.
The Eagles will have a boost on the blueline with Lavoie and Will Murphy returning from NHL training camps.
Eliot Litalien, who joined the Eagles last year, led the team with four points in last Saturday’s six to three victory over Saint John.
The Wildcats are expected to play strong as the defending league champions.
There will also be a special tribute to, Dave LeBlanc, as he marks the end to 38 years as the PA for both the Eagles and the Cape Breton Oilers.
The puck drops in Sydney on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
Fans can get tickets for their games on their website.
