A major milestone for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), with 5 million who have now signed up.
“The plan is having a profound impact on the lives of Canadians, improving both health and affordability for eligible members,” says Federal Health Minister, Marjorie Michel. “At a time of rising living costs, the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your health needs will be met, is priceless.”
She adds that the plan eases pressure on our health system with less trips to the emergency room for dental issues.
The CDCP aims to makes to make life more affordable for eligible Canadians by saving them an average of $800 per year on health care services.
“This program is not just about providing financial support; it is about improving lives,” expressed Michel. “People suffering with chronic dental pain are now getting treated.”
The government expanded applications for the CDCP in May 2025 to eligible Canadians aged from 18 to 64.
Over 2 million Ontarians are now covered under the CDCP and over 1 million Ontarians have received care from participating providers.
Nearly 3 million Canadians have received care already.
Michel says this is still a new initiative and improving how some costs are applied to patients is still a work in progress.
