The widow of one of New Brunswick’s leading industrialists has died.
Suzanne Heather Cameron Irving (née Farrer) died Monday, Oct. 6, in Saint John.
Irving was the wife of Jack Irving, the youngest of the three Irving brothers who led the family empire for decades. Jack Irving died in 2010.
She is also the mother of John Irving, president of Ocean Capital, Acadia Broadcasting’s parent company.
Suzanne Irving was born in Saint John, the daughter of Dr. Isaac Farrer and Mrs. Marjorie Farrer.
According to her obituary, she graduated from Saint John High School, received a bachelor of arts degree and bachelor of education degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax.
Irving was an active member of the community throughout her life.
According to her obituary she served three terms on the board of governors at the University of New Brunswick and received an honorary doctor of letters from UNB.
She served on the board of the New Brunswick Museum, and was a long-standing member of the Trinity Anglican Church Vestry.
She served as the president of the ladies section of the Union Club, of which she was a member for 73 years and received an honorary lifetime membership.
Irving was also a recipient of the Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellow Award.
Among her many interests were the New Brunswick Symphony, the Imperial Theatre, Trinity Anglican Church, UNB, the New Brunswick Medical Education Trust, Union Club and Saint John High School.
She spent her summers in Westfield on the St. John River, and enjoyed salmon fishing on the Restigouche and Upsalquitch rivers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and her son Colin.
She is survived by her son John (Elizabeth), her daughter Anne Oxley (John), and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Trinity Anglican Church on Charlotte Street in Saint John Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. The funeral liturgy will take place Friday at the same location at 11 a.m.
