It was a close game in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), Sunday afternoon in Halifax.
The Ottawa Charge team landed their sixth straight victory, beating the Boston Fleet team 2-1 in a shootout in front of a sold-out crowd.
It was the second time in recent weeks that stands were filled to the brim for a PWHL game held at the Scotiabank Centre.
It’s part of the Takeover Tour that was designed to introduce the league to new audiences and build interest in professional women’s hockey across Canada and the United States.
Sunday’s game brought a Canadian music legend to the crowd. Four-time grammy winner and Nova Scotia native, Anne Murray was met with a standing ovation when introduced.
Also in stands was Halifax Councillor Virginia Hinch. She tells Acadia Broadcasting not only was the atmosphere great but so was having the legendary singer in attendance.
“This is amazing. The fact that Anne Murray’s here is great too. I would say that’s a really good highlight of my day because I love [her],” says Hinch.
All teams in the league will participate in the Takeover Tour and will each play at least three games in neutral venues.
